We are sisters who love to spend time together (when we are not running around with kids and work, that is.) Tarts&Crafts was sparked years ago in a kitchen. The story goes something like this (according to Marissa):
It All Began with some Peaches
It was a balmy summer afternoon in the Carolinas, and the peaches were in peak season. I mean juicy, delicious, tree-ripened Carolina peaches. After my experience picking farm-fresh blueberries and baking a pie with them, I was obsessed with pies. So I baked a peach pie. We’ll get back to that pie in a minute.
A Little Background
As a student of architecture, Chrissy had always been good with her hands. She had been making crafts like pocketbooks made from placemats, paintings with 3-D bridges, rosettes made of denim and other mind-boggling feats. Meanwhile, Joanna had been perfecting her photography skills on weddings, holiday, newborn and maternity photos (so she does most of the photos for our site).
Back to the pie. We liked it so much we made another one. You see, it gave us a lot of joy.
So we Started to Dream
We got to thinking; wouldn’t it be sweet if there was a place people could go to get pies of all kinds, maybe enjoy some coffee, and make a craft? When we shared the idea with Joanna, she recalled that she had always wanted to own a cafe – of course, with live music on Friday nights. We said, why not? So she was in.
At this point, we had created a place in our minds where we would love to just hang out. A place that would bring people together, ignite hope, and spark joy.
And there the dream ended. Womp, womp.
Several years passed with us living in different states (we still do), and we could not think how to make our dream come true. Then one day Marissa woke up with an idea. Why not start it virtually? So here we are.
Our goal is:
To inspire you to create spaces that are inviting, and food that warms the heart. What better way to do that than with a hand-crafted pie or gift? Here we empower you to make memories with others, building community through a shared creation. So invite a friend, roll up your sleeves, and let’s begin!
